Where has all the telly gone?

Bah! Why is there no good telly on at the moment???
This sucks- I'm here at home, telly has not been switched on today at all....I don't understand why US TV has a Fall hiatus? Surely the most likely time for people to watch TV is in the Winter and Autumn and early Spring- now people, right now!!!!

Why are we having to wait until the New year for new stuff, or the continuation of old stuff? (I'm thinking Bones, House, Lost, even the Mentalist). Surely there should be some kind of rolling content to tide us over.

And where is British TV in all this? We don't even have a traditional Autumn break, we seem to be doing rubbish all year round. We've had a few good, high quality things recently such as Wallander-which followed the more and more frequently trodden path towards making high quality programs with only three episodes to a series. Does quality really cost that much that you can only deliver three episodes a season???

We've also seen a lot of good money spent on a load of old shit also -Bonekickers (wtf?- you could have gotten away with it, but only if you had set it in space, you eejits), Survivers (yawn) numerous historical dramas (little dorritt, lark rise to candlethingy, the Tudors) For gods sake, Britain has a past that did not involve the royal family, the rural idyll and Dickens you know..?
Are we really that short of quality scriptwriters over here?

Really, Torchwood and Doctor Who should not be the only Brit TV I'm looking forward to right now...
